For me, that route has been Buddhism — a philosophy that welcomed me without prejudice and guided me toward a more mindful existence. This article delves into what first attracted me to Buddhism, how its teachings have reshaped my life, and why I persist in embracing its insights in my daily walk.

A Gentle Welcome: My Initial Encounter With Buddhism

My journey commenced with a trip to Sherabling Monastery in Bir, India. Surrounded by hills, its serene environment enveloped me with an unparalleled sense of calm. The majestic halls decorated with dragons, Buddhist figures, and meaningful tapestries provided not just aesthetic beauty but a spiritual richness that encouraged reflection.

I recall sitting in a serene nook of the monastery, eyes shut, the scent of incense surrounding me, uncertain of how to meditate correctly — yet something within me clicked. The silence was not void; it brimmed with presence. It was there, in that tranquility, I sensed that I truly began to “observe” myself.

Why Buddhism Speaks to Me

One of the most significant elements of Buddhism that resonates with me is its inclusivity. Unlike other rigid doctrines or religions, Buddhism does not impose strict guidelines or a rigid lifestyle. Instead, it encourages you to simply live, observe, and be attuned to the moment.

In that awareness, I uncovered what Buddhists affectionately call “nothingness” — a sacred space that encompasses everything and yet requires nothing.

I am not here to pursue material success, perfection, or unending happiness. I am here merely to exist — fully, radically, and compassionately.
