A poem inspired by the Sufi masters
Like the drop we make our journey back to sea
Carried across mountains and winding tributaries
Days of drought leave us questioning our memories of the ocean
The vastness seems like a distant dream
Bodies of water appear distinct from ourselves
Separated by mountainscapes, borders and trees
Yet we move ever closer to the whole
Drawn by cycles ancient and primordial
We resist and struggle as we merge with the depths
Surrendering what makes us distinct and becoming everything,
The limitless abyss
Reflecting the light of the moon
We become one with the whole,
Now vast enough to be plated by its ancient glow
Now deep enough to truly know
